State seeks death for Sayedee Delwar Hossain Sayedee

DHAKA: State prosecution has appealed for reviewing the verdict of lifelong imprisonment against war criminal Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee.

Attorney General Mahbube Alam said, the 653-page plea consists of five reasons seeking death penalty to Sayedee.

On December 31 in 2015, Supreme Court (SC) released full verdict that commuted war criminal Sayedee’s death sentence to imprisonment until death.

On February 28, 2013, Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer, was found guilty of genocide, rape and religious persecution and the tribunal also awarded him death penalty.

On March 28, 2013, Sayedee filed an appeal with the SC seeking acquittal on all charges.

On the same day, the government also submitted a separate appeal seeking Sayedee’s punishment in all the eight charges.

On September 17, 2014, the SC gave its judgment that commuted the war criminal’s death sentence to imprisonment until death.
