CHITTAGONG: Two cases have been filed against ruling party lawmaker MA Latif on charge of distorting the photo of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with the court of metropolitan hakim Farid Alam on Tuesday (February 9).
One of the cases was filed on charge of treason and another under the hotly debated section 57 of ICT act.
Former central leader of Jubo League, a front organization of AL, Saifuddin Ahmed Robi lodged the suit under the ICT Act while Chittagong metropolitan AL unit vice-president AKM Belayet Hossain filed the treason case.
Saifuddin Ahmed Robi’s lawyer Advocate Iftekhar Saimum Chowdhury told banglanews that a case has been filed against four, including MA Latif.
The court said that the orders will be given later, he added.
AKM Belayet’s lawyer Advocate Rony Kumar Dey told banglanews that a case has been filed against MA Latif under the section 124/A of treason act.
Earlier, two more cases were filed against Latif for the same allegation.
Of the two, Saifudding Ahmed Robi lodged a defamation suit of Tk 1,000-crore on February 4.
On the same day, another former BCL central leader Abdur Rahman Zillu filed a case against Latif.
On 30 January, lawmaker from Chittagong-11 constituency MA Latif displayed posters, festoons and banners of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Halishahar and Patenga areas of the port city regarding the premier’s visit here.
He allegedly cropped the face of Bangabandhu and superimposed it on his body and used the photograph in those festoons, posters and banners.
However, the issue agitated the party members. Jubo League and BCL have protested the incident by making human chains and rallies.
Later, Latif accepted the fact of superimposing at a press conference but alleged the designer as the culprit.
