DHAKA: The Supreme Court (SC) appellate division dismissed BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s plea seeking cancelation of deposition of plaintiff in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
An SC bench, led by Chief Justice SK Sinha, passed the order on Sunday (February 14).
Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan moved for the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
On June 14, 2015, Khaleda Zia filed a review petition with the High Court (HC) seeking its order to recorded fresh deposition of the plaintiff Harun-or-Rashid on the case canceling previous one, said Khurshid Alam Khan.
Later on June 29, the HC rejected Khaleda’s petition for recording fresh deposition of the plaintiff in her presence. Then, she moved to the appellate division.
The ACC filed the graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her eldest son Tarique Rahman and four others of misappropriating Tk over 2.10-crore, which came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
The other accused are former BNP lawmaker Kazi Saleemul Haque, businessperson Sharfuddin Ahmed, Khaleda’s former principal secretary Kamal Uddin Siddiqui and Momenur Rahman.
