6 HUJI members on 6-day remand

DHAKA: A city court granted six-day remand for each six members of banned militant outfit Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HUJI), including its regional commander Sajjadul Alalm.

Court of additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Alamgir Kabir Raj passed this order on Wednesday (February 17) after a hearing.

Earlier in the day, detective branch (DB) police inspector Alamgir Hossain produced the arrestees before the court with a 10-day remand plea.

However, police’s Anti-Terrorism Unit detained the HUJI members on Tuesday evening (February 16) during drives in city’s Kotwali Thana area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch (DMP DB) senior assistant commissioner (south) Mahmuda Afroze Lucky confirmed the matter on Wednesday (February 17).

The other detainees were identified as Mezbahur Rahman alias Pradip, Bashar, Ashraf, Aziz alias Babu, and Shafiq alias Palash alias Bijoy.

The police official said that the detainees are members of militant outfit HUJI.

According to her, the law enforcers also seized a large number of books on jihad and documents of online correspondence.

‘Among the detainees, Mezbahur Rahman is a fire service unit driver in city’s Mirpur area. Moreover, Bashar is working as an imam of a mosque. Besides, Asharf is a computer operator.’
