Gayeshwar summoned for defaming martyred intellectuals

DHAKA: A city court on Thursday (February 18) summoned BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy for making defamatory remarks against country’s martyred intellectuals.

Metropolitan Magistrate Nuru Mia passed the order after taking the investigation report in cognizance.

The BNP leader is asked to be present before the court on March 16.

Earlier, Shahbagh Thana Inspector Abul Kalam Azad submitted the report to the court.

Son of a martyred freedom fighter’s family and also Mercantile Bank assistant managing director Manindra Kumar Nath filed the defamation case on January 21.

Gayeshwar, while addressing a discussion in city on December 25 in 2015, said that they (intellectuals) died as they were “stupid”, and “a few more stupid like us places floral wreaths to commemorate them”.

If they (intellectuals) were so brilliant then why did they stay in their houses till December 14 of 1971, he added.
