DHAKA: BNP chairperson and also former premier Khaleda Zia commented that authoritarian forces in the country have been trying to keep the nation subjugated.
She made this remark in a message issued on the eve of Language Martyrs Day and also International Mother Language Day that falls on February 21.
Paying profound respect to the martyrs of historic language movement in 1952, the BNP chief said, ‘Country’s all democratic movements have been spread with the spirit of the historic language movement. Moreover, the nation’s independence has come after a bloody war’.
‘Though the country has been liberated but a group of authoritarian forces have been trying to subjugate the nation through cultural and economic aggression with the help of a vested quarter at home.’
Khaleda Zia also paid rich tribute to the martyrs of 1952 and expressed her deep sympathy to their bereaved family members.
She also prayed for happiness, peaceful and long life of language movement veterans.
