3 JMB men on 18-day remand over priest murder

PANCHAGARH: A court in Panchagarh placed three members of Jama'at-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) each on 18-day remand in the case of killing a priest in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh district.

Senior judicial magistrate Marjia Khatun of Debiganj Amoli Adalat passed the order on Saturday (February 27) after hearing the remand petition.

Court sources said investigating officer of the cases and Debiganj thana officer-in-charge (OC) Aiyub Ali sought 20-day remand for each in two cases.
 
After hearing the petitions, the court granted 10-day remand each for the trio in murder case and 8-day each for explosives case.

During the time, Public Prosecutor Aminur Rahman was present in the court.

Remanded accused are Hares (32) of Sundardighi union, Ramjan Ali (20) of Dandapaal union and Alamgir Hossain (30) of sadar union of Debiganj upazila.

They all are member of banned outfit Jama'at-ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), said police.

On February 26, police, in a drive, detained the three accused, including mastermind of the killing of a priest in Debiganj upazila.

During the drive, the lawmen seized two pistols, three magazines, one grenade, two cocktails, five round bullets and three knives.

On Monday (February 22), three people were detained for their alleged link to the killing. They are JMB members Khalilur Rahman (55) and Babul Hossaon (35) and Islami Chhatra Shibir activist Jahangir Alam (35).

Later, they each were placed on 15-day remand in the murder case.

Following the information given by the trio during remand, a team of police conducted the drive and detained mastermind of the killing mission and two others.
