Tarique gets time till Mar 16 to surrender Tarique Rahman

DHAKA: The High Court (HC) gave time to BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman till March 16 for surrender before the trial court.

The bench of HC Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain will deliver its further order regarding the matter on the aforesaid date.

Khurshid Alam Khan moved for the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

He said the HC asked the trial court whether summon order sent to the address of Tarique Rahman on February 28 has reached his hand.

On Thursday (March 3), CMM told the High Court that they initially did not understand the order of HC. Later, they sent the HC summon order to Tarique on February 29.

So, for the sake of justice, the HC will observe till March 16 whether Tarique Rahman has obeyed the order.

Earlier, the court ordered the BNP leader to surrender before the trial court on January 19, 2014 following an appeal filed by the ACC challenging acquittal order of him from money laundering case. But, he has yet to surrender before court.

Later on January 12 this year, the HC asked authorities concerned to publish advertisement regarding the order of surrendering Tarique Rahman before the trial court.

Later, the High Court division published advertisements in two newspapers on January 20 and 21 to inform him about surrender of Tarique Rahman and ACC’s appeal.

Then, the trial court sent the summon order to two addresses mentioned in the chargesheet of the case.

On November 17, 2013, Dhaka Third Special Judge Court acquitted Tarique Rahman and sentenced Gias Uddin Al Mamun of seven years imprisonment in the money laundering case.
