Salahuddin Ahmed to be BNP vice chair

DHAKA: BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, who has been staying at Shillong in India since May last year for ‘illegal entry’ to the country, would be made vice chairman of the party.

It will be the recognition of unlimited sacrifice for the party, for becoming victim of unexplainable-unexpected situation and discharge party duties taking risk, said several policy-making level leaders of BNP.

According to leaders involved in arrangement of party’s council, Salahuddin Ahmed’s family members are not willing to lobby for any post for him though many leaders from different levels are lobbying with top leaders ahead of council.

Instead, family’s first priority is the safe return of Salahuddin settling dawn all hurdles. However, BNP chairperson did not forget the contribution of the dedicated party leader.

Party sources said party chief herself expressed her keenness to make Salahuddin Ahmed as BNP vice chairman. She also discussed the matter in the party forum.

Wishing anonymity, one of vice chairmen of BNP told banglanews that many leaders are lobbying for expected posts ahead of the party council. Many will not get posts. But Salahuddin will not miss as party chairperson is the proposer for his post.

All the party leaders, even who secretly criticized many decision of Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, welcomed the decision of making young leader Salahuddin Ahmed as vice chairman.

Former minister Salahuddin Ahmed, who was granted bail by a lower court in Shillong after he was arrested on May 12, has been asked not to leave the Meghalaya capital.

Salahuddin Ahmed, who had surfaced in Shillong on May 11 was reportedly abducted in Dhaka on March 10 from hideouts during anti-government movement.
