FROM SUHRAWARDI UDYAN: Prime Minister and also ruling Awami League (AL) president Sheikh Hasina said that father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s historic speech on March 7 in 1971 was delivered to liberate the nation.
‘His speech still inspires the nation. It is one of the best speeches in the world history.’
The PM made this assertion at a mass rally at Suhrawardi Udyan, the then Race Course Maidan, in city on Monday afternoon (March 7).
She further said that a large number of people came from country’s remote places to listen to the speech.
‘On the day, they came to get Bangabandhu’s instruction regarding the independence. Father of the nation asked people to take preparation for liberation war.’
However, AL organized the rally, chaired by party presidium member and also deputy leader of the parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, to mark the day.
AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, Advisory Council members Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Matia Chowdhury and Mohammad Nasim and others attended the program.
On the other hand, thousands of leaders and activists gathered at the venue since noon to join the rally.
On the day in 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had delivered his fiery speech at the place that inspired Bangalis to prepare them for fighting Pakistani-junta during the liberation war.
Bangabandhu delivered his speech in front of gigantic crowds saying, ‘It is the war for emancipation, it is the war of independence’.
