DHAKA: The national council of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is underway at the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in city on Saturday (March 19).
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia inaugurated the activities of the party’s 6th national council through hoisting the national flag around 10:45am here.
Later, acting BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir hoisted the party flag.
The daylong national council is being held under the theme of freeing democracy from captivity.
The council is taking place at IEB auditorium and at north-eastern part of Suhrawardy Udyan after three years of scheduled time.
Earlier, the BNP chairperson reached at IEB auditorium around 10:40am.
Some 3,100 councilors, 10,000 delegates, local and foreign guests and thousands of leaders and activists of the party and its front organizations have assembled to participate in the council.
The fifth national council of BNP was held on December 8 in 2009.
