JESSORE: A septuagenarian man was shot to death and 10 others injured as supporters of two candidates exchanged firing at a polling center of Chanchra union parishad of Jessore sadar upazila on Thursday (March 31).
The deceased was identified as Golam Babu, a nut vendor, hailed from Kholadanag area of the upazila.
The incident took place at Bhaturia polling center of Chanchra union parishad around 12:00pm.
Meanwhile, authorities have postponed voting in the center immediately.
Jessore Kotowali Model Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Ilias Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
He also said additional forces have been deployed at the center to thwart untoward situation.
However, voting in 639 union parishads (UP) of the country is underway on Thursday amid tight security.
Over 1.12-crore voters are exercising their franchise rights in the second phase of UP polls in 6,205 centers on the day.
