DHAKA: An Election Commission (EC) report on Friday (April 01) said that ruling Awami League (AL) and opposition BNP earned 76 percent and 11 percent respectively in the recently ended 2nd phase of Upazila Parishad (UP) polls.
Meanwhile, independent contestants earned 30 percent of total votes in this phase.
Earlier on March 31, the 2nd phase of ongoing UP polls was held in 605 UPs. Based on the available results of 550 UPs till April 01, the report said that ruling AL and opposition BNP earned 76 percent and 11 percent respectively.
EC system manager Mohammad Rafiqul Haque told banglanews that using result management software (RMS) they have found that 7,341,896 votes out of 9,643,682 had been cast while 150,301 cast votes were invalid.
As many as 76.13 percent votes were cast in the 2nd phase, the report added.
