DHAKA: Supreme Court (SC) Appellate Division has granted one week time to war criminal Jamaat Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami for hearing on his plea of review death penalty.

An SC bench led by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order in response to six week time plea by Nizami on Sunday morning.

The hearing will be held on next week, the court said in its order.

On March 29, convicted war criminal Nizami filed a petition seeking review of the Supreme Court verdict upholding the International Crimes Tribunal judgment that had sentenced him to death.

Earlier on 15 March, the Appellate Division released the full verdict. According to the provisions, there is a provision of filing review petition within 15 days after releasing the full verdict. On 6 January last, Appellate Division upheld the death sentences of Nizami.

On 29th October 2014, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced the Jamaat chief to death for committing crimes against humanity in 1971.
