AL leader killed in Narail UP poll clash

NARAIL: A local unit ruling Awami League (AL) leader has been hacked dead in an in-fight during a Union Parishad (UP) poll campaign in sadar upazila of the district on Friday (April 8).

 

Moreover, at least 15 people were injured in the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Shahid Ali, a local unit AL leader, who supported his party nominated UP chairman candidate Alauddin Chowdhury.

Police and local sources said that groups of Alauddin and his rival Kazi Ayub locked into clashes while they were conducting poll campaigns in Char Joynagar village.

People of rival group hacked AL leader Shahid Ali, who succumbed to his injures on his way to Khulna for better treatment.

Naragati Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Zayadul Haque told banglanews that two rival groups locked into clashes to establish supremacy in the area.

‘The clash left a local leader dead,’ the OC said adding that additional police forces have been deployed in the area.

According to him, the injured are admitted at different hospitals in Khulna, Narail and Gopalganj districts.
