Joy questions over transparency of TIB

DHAKA: Prime Minister's ICT adviser Sajib Wazed Joy have questioned over the accuracy of Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB) following step down of the chief of Chile counterparts amid Panam Papers scandal.

In his Facebook status posted around 2am on Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son Joy also urged TIB to prove transparency by showing its wealth statement.

The full text of the post is as follows:

I have been traveling quite a bit over the past two months and have not been able to post as frequently. I finally took my family on a little vacation to Disney World. I think Sophia’s mother enjoyed it more than Sophia did!

One issue I would like to raise is the recent resignation of the chief of Transparency International Chile. He was named in the Panama Papers as having hidden wealth overseas. Then my question is, how clean is Transparency International and how do they have the right to call others corrupt? After all, in our country all Members of Parliament and Ministers are required to provide their wealth statements.

Transparency International Bangladesh does not, yet they claim to be the watchdog on corruption. How do we know that the members of Transparency International Bangladesh are not corrupt, that they do not have hidden wealth and have paid all their taxes?

If they have the courage, then they should voluntarily provide their wealth statements before they make any statements on corruption by others. I doubt they will have the courage, so maybe it should be a law. Anyone who wants to be a watchdog on corruption is required to provide their wealth statements to the Anti-Corruption Commission, just as MPs are required to do.

Please like and share this post if you agree with me. Let’s demand that Transparency International Bangladesh show their wealth statements to prove they are not corrupt like their counterparts in Chile.
