DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented the government took position against people and democracy through filing false cases against political activists and journalists.
He made the comment while addressing a discussion organized by Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) at Dhaka Photojournalist Association around 11:30am on Tuesday (April 19).
JAGPA organized the meeting as a protest of arrest and “filing false case” against journalist Shafik Rehman.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Veteran journalist Shafik Rehman has been arrested to enforce him stop writing”.
He further said the arrest has moved the whole nation.
The BNP leader also said once the party that fought for democracy and independence of the country has taken position against the two ideologies in these days.
He also alleged that incumbent government wants to illegally stay in power for a long.
With JAGPA president Shafiul Alam Pradhan in the chair, Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) secretary general Mustafa Jamal Haidar and 20-party alliance leader Fariduzzaman Farid, among others, addressed the meting.
