GAZIPUR: A councilor candidate of Union Parishad (UP) election was chopped to death by miscreants in Amuna Bankara area under Sadar upazila of the district early Wednesday (April 20).

The deceased was identified as Akhtar Hossain Khandaker, 45, a councilor candidate of Prahladpur Union and also a local Awami League leader.

Sreepur police station office-in-charge (OC) Asaduzzaman told banglanews that Akhtar Hossain was hacked to death by the assailants while returning Amuna Bankara area from a program.

Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College and Hospital, Gazipur morgue for autopsy.
