BNP alleges vote rigging

DHAKA: The BNP alleged rigging of votes in the third phase of Union Parishad polls held on Saturday (April 23).

Party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed said, “Like the earlier phases ruling Awami League cadres rigged votes in the third phase.”

He came up with the allegations in a press conference upon completion of voting at BNP’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the afternoon.

The senior BNP leader said, “Awami League candidates and their supporters across the country rigged votes massively. They filled ballot boxes on Friday night”.

“They took control of the polling centers’ today driving BNP’s agents out,” he added.

Rizvi also slammed the Election Commission (EC) saying it did not take actions even when they lodged complaints about throwing BNP’s agents out from polling centers, rigging votes and other irregularities.

He also alleged that the law enforcing personnel also played “spectator’s role only” instead of taking actions against irregularities.

He also said countrymen watched violences in each and every election held under the Awami League government.

Rizvi also said election commissioners did not take actions against the wrongdoers fearing they “might be sacked from the job”.

BNP joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Khairul Kabir Khokon, mass education affairs secretary of former committee Advocate Sanaullah Mia, assistant office secretary Asadul Karim Shahin and Taiful Islam Tipu were, among others, present in the conference.
