DHAKA: A total of six chairmen runners, including three from BNP, have boycotted the union parishad polls in three districts on allegation of various irregularities including rigging and throwing their agents out of polling centers on Saturday (May 7).

Noakhali: BNP’s chairman runner, M Didar Hossain, from Deoti union parishad under Sonaimuri upazila announced boycotting polls around 9:30am on allegation of seizing centers and throwing his agents out and rigging.
He also demanded re-voting in the union parishad.
Natore: BNP selected chairman runner Sheikh Jahurul Islam Bhutu for Khajura union of Naldanga upazila boycotted UP polls on allegation of irregularities including vote rigging,
He made the announcement in a press briefing around 11:00am.
He also alleged that free and fair election is not possible in the ensuing conditions as ruling party leaders and activists are barring opposition men to go to polling centers.
He also said general people are being forced to cast their vote for ‘Nouka’, symbol of Awami League candidate.
Meanwhile, returning officer Amirul Isalm told banglanews that none informed him about any boycott.
No one alleged about irregularities and vote rigging, he added.
Feni: Three chairman runners from two union parishads -- Lemua and Dhalia -- have boycotted polls on Saturday.
Of the three candidates, Maulana Mohammad Ismail and Ekramul Haque Bhuiyan were from Islami Andolan while Zakir Hossain Jasim was from BNP.
Islami Andolan’s district election committee general secretary Golam Sarwar Siraji told banglanews that Dhalia UP chairman runner Maulana Mohammad Ismail and Lemua UP candidate Ekramul Haque Bhuiyan boycott polls for rampant irregularities.
Meanwhile, BNP candidate Zakir Hossain Jasim announced about boycotting polls around 11:30am.
Comilla: An independent candidate, Iqbal Hossain Majumdar, also a local Jamaat-e-Islami leader, from Kankapait union under Chouddagram upazila boycott polls in the morning on allegation of rigging and other irregularities.
