UP member candidate stabbed dead in Ctg

CHITTAGONG: A Union Parishad (UP) election candidate for member post was stabbed to death at a poll center in Patiya upazila on Saturday (May 28).

Karnaphuli Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam told banglanews that the supporters of ruling Awami League (AL) and rival group locked into a clash at Shah Mirpur Government Primary School of the upazila with lethal weapons, leaving UP member candidate M Yasin stabbed injured and two others gun shot.

Chittagong Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) police outpost sub-inspector (SI) Zahirul Islam said the attending doctors declared Yasin dead while he was taken to the hospital.

Two other gun shot injured Sharif, 32, and Alam, 20, are under treatment at the hospital, he added.

City police deputy commissioner (port) Harunur Rashid Hazari said Yasin was a candidate of Borouthan Union No 6 Shah Mirpur ward, but he was not carrying any political identity.
