PABNA: Recruitment test for different posts of class-three employees in the administration Friday was foiled following attacks allegedly by some activists of Chhatra League and Juba League on the DC office and two examination centers.

In an emergency meeting after the troubles, the administration postponed the examination for an indefinite period.

Witnesses said the activists of BCL and Juba League, associates of the ruling Awami League, launched the joint forays demanding that their nominated candidates be appointed to the posts under four categories.  

Sources said the two ADCs were roughed up and four cars on the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office vandalized during the rampage.  

They said 30-40 Chhatra League and Juba League activists first attacked the DC office at about 9:30am, shortly after the examinations started. They assaulted physically some 5/6 government officials, including Additional DC (General) Imam Uddin Kabir, Additional DC (Revenue) Bijoy Bhusan Pal and Assistant Director of Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Office Monir Hossain.

“Four cars of the officials were also damaged during the violence,” the sources said, quoting witnesses.

Later, the group attacked Pabna Zila School and Govt Girls’ School centers where the tests were underway.

They also allegedly beat up the candidates and burnt the question papers.

On information, police rushed in. But, the vandals had fled the scene by then sensing their presence.

Meanwhile, local Chhatra League and Juba League denied the allegation of involvement of their activists in the incidents and said the agitated candidates halted the examination and launched the attacks because of question-paper leakage and a prelisting of recruits.

DC Manjur Kadir, however, told banglanews that the matter of question leakage is nothing but a wild “rumour”.
