DHAKA: The death warrant of war criminal Mir Quasem Ali reached Dhaka Central Jail Monday evening (June 6).
Dhaka Central Jail senior jail superintendent Jahangir Kabir and jailer Nesar Alam said the warrant and the copy of full verdict were received around 7:45pm and it would be sent to Kashimpur Jail where the convict has been kept.
An officer of Kashimpur Jail part-2 told banglanews that the warrant will be pronounced before the convict when it reaches to the jail.
The copies were also sent to home and law ministries.
Earlier, International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) issued death warrant of Jamaat-e-Islami’s central working committee member Mir Quasem Ali for his crimes against humanity during the Liberation War in 1971.
Tribunal chairman justice M Anwarul Haque and two members of judicial panel justices M Shahinur Islam and Mohammad Suhrawardy issued the warrant around 7:00pm this day.
Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) released the full verdict of the death sentence to Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali around 12:30pm.
The appellate division released the 244-page full verdict copy upon completion of legal proceedings.
Five justices, led by chief justice SK Sinha, who upheld the death sentence, signed the full verdict.
Other members of the appellate division were Justice Mirza Hussain Haider, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, Justice Hasan Foez Siddique and Justice Mohammad Bazlur Rahman.
On March 8, the Appellate Division pronounced a summary verdict upholding the death penalty of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Mir Quasem Ali by a three-member panel of International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 led by Justice Obaidul Hassan for his war crimes committed during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
As per the verdict, Mir Quasem Ali was proved guilty in 10 charges out of 14. The charge numbers are: 2, 3, 4, 6, 7,9,10, 11, 12 and 14.
