2,100 BNP men held in mass arrest: Rizvi

DHAKA: BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed alleged that at least 2,100 members of the party have been arrested in the name of countrywide special drives.

The senior leader came up with this assertion while speaking at a press conference organized at party central office in city’s Nayapaltan area on Monday (June 13).

The ruling government led by Awami League is conducting the drives to torture the pro-democratic party leaders and imposed a steam roller on people, he added.

Rizvi Ahmed said the law enforcers arrested over 7,000 people including 2,100 BNP leaders and activists. But, they are failed to arrest the terrorists, who are carrying out the assassinations and vandalism across the country.

Police headquarters issued a statement that says so far 85 suspected militants have been arrested till Monday, the BNP leader added.

He also alleged that the government is misusing the power of law enforcing agencies and arresting people by filing false cases.

BNP joint secretary general Mujibur Rahman Sarwar, advocate Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal and organizing secretary Bilkis Jahan Shirin, among others, attended the program.
