GAZIPUR: Journalist Shawkat Mahmud was released on bail from Kashimpur Central Jail in the district on Wednesday afternoon (June 22).

Kashimpur Central Jail Part-2 jailer Nasir Hossain told banglanews that the journalist has come out of the jail around 4:30pm.

According to him, the bail paper reached the jail on Tuesday night (June 21). Later, after scrutinizing the paper they released him this afternoon.

The journalist’s wife Ferdousi Mahmud was present at the jail gate, he added.

However, Shawkat Mahmud, president of a fraction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFJU), is also an adviser to BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia.
