ICT orders to begin 6 ‘war criminals’ trial

DHAKA: International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) ordered to start the trial process against six people from Gaibandha district including former Jamaat-e-Islami MP Abdul Aziz for their alleged crimes against humanity.

A three-member tribunal led by Justice Anwarul Haque passed the order on Tuesday (June 28) and Syed Ali Haidar was the prosecutor.

The hearing date for deposition has been fixed on August 2. Earlier on June 16, the hearing for chargesheet formation ended.

Other five accused are M Ruhul Amin alias Manzu, M Andul Latif, Abu Muslem M Ali, M Nazmul Huda and M Abdur Rahim Miah.

On December 27, the investigation team handed over the investigation report to tribunal prosecution. Later, the formal chargesheet was formed.

There charges are formed against the six alleged war criminals for murder, massacre, detention, kidnapping, torture, looting and torching from October 9-13 during the liberation war in 1971 in Gaibandha sadar and Sundarban upazilas, the report stated.
