Jamaat leader among 50 held in Rangpur

DHAKA: Police arrested 50 people including two Jamaat-e-Islami Union ameers during several drives in eight upazilas of the district on early Tuesday (July 19).

The two Jamaat amirs are Chhawa Union Amirs Abul Basar M Abdur Rahim, 45, son of Afaz Uddin of Gabura village and Nuruzzaman, 65, son of late Abu Bakkar Siddique of Bin Narayan village under Pirgachha upazila.

Pirgachha Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Aminul Islam told banglanews that the Jamaat leaders are accused in several cases for creating sabotage and attack.

The rest of arrestees were fugitive, he added.

Rangpur senior superintendent of police (ASP, Circle-B) M Saifur Rahman said the arrestees were sent to jail through court in the morning.
