RAJSHAHI: Police arrested 16 members of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir among 41 in special drives in four thanas of the district.

Police and its Detective Branch conducted the joint drives from around 9:00pm Friday (July 22) to Saturday (July 23) 6:00am in the thanas.

Rashahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) spokesman and also Rajpara Zone senior assistant commissioner (AC) Ifte Khayer Alam confirmed that in a press briefing on Saturday afternoon (July 23).

However, police arrested 23 from Boalia Thana, eight from Rajpara Thana, three from Matihar Thana, four from Shah Makhdum Thana and six from other metropolitan areas.

Of Jamaat-Shibir men, 14 are facing arrest warrants, three drug peddlers and eight drug addicts accused in several cases.

The law enforcers also seized 80 liters of liquor and 25 pieces of yaba tablets.

The arrestees were sent to the jail through court at noon, the senior AC added.
