DHAKA: A youth platform Ganajagaran Mancha spokesman Imran H Sarkar on Tuesday opined Bangladesh has taken another step forward to ban Jamaat-e-Islami in the country through Supreme Court’s upholding the death sentence of the party’s leader Mir Quasem Ali.
He came up with the opinion as an immediate reaction to Appellate Division’s decision from city’s Shahbagh area on Tuesday morning (August 30).
“Our joy over the decision knows no bounds. We have been waiting for five months for the review petition to be rejected. No other war criminal’s verdict procrastinated this long. Mir Quasem used his wealth and connections to sway the sentence,” he added.
The Mancha spokesperson also said court’s upholding the ICT verdict dispelled the nation’s unease.
Terming the verdict as a win of truth over the money and muscle power, Imran hoped the government would proceed for the trails of 191 Pakistani war criminals.
On Tuesday (August 30), the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court dismissed the review petition and upheld the death penalty of Jamaat executive committee member Mir Quasem Ali for his war crimes committed during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.
