Jamaat calls half-day hartal for Monday

DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami called a half-day hartal across the country for Monday (September 5) in protest against the execution of its leader and war criminal Mir Quasem Ali.

Immediately after the execution on Saturday night, the party website said the hartal would continue from 6:00am to 2:00pm.

Earlier at 10:30pm on Saturday, war criminal Mir Quasem Ali was executed for committing crimes against humanity during the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

He was hanged around 10:30pm Saturday (September 3) at Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur district amid beefed up security.
