KUSHTIA: At least two people were killed and 19 others sustained injuries in infighting between two factions of local unit of ruling Awami League (AL) over establishing supremacy in Machhapara village of Kushtia sadar upazila on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Iman Ali, 35, hailed from Machhpara village and Shahabuddin, 55, from Baidyanathpur village of the upazila.

Quoting locals, sources from Kushtia sadar thana police told banglanews that the supporters of Jhaodia union parishad president Bakhtiar Hossain and Jhaodia union parishad chairman Keramat Ali locked in infighting, leaving Iman Ali dead on the spot.

The injured were taken to hospital where Shahbuddin succumbed.

Meanwhile, at least 20 houses were looted and vandalized during the clash, sources added.
