DHAKA: BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said that his party did not join ruling Awami League (AL) national council as the ruling party continuing suppression on the opposition.
He made the assertion on Sunday (October 23) while talking to the media after his release from jail at the party headquarters in city’s Naya Paltan area.
“There is no democratic environment prevailing in the country. The AL leaders deliver speech against BNP chair Khaleda Zia. Moreover, the ruling party did not make environment for the BNP men to attend their council.”
The BNP leader further said that the government has been killing, arresting and harassing BNP men since ascending power.
“The ruling party leaders did not join BNP council. On the other hand, they created obstacle for the BNP men to join the council.”
Rizvi also demanded the government to release the BNP leaders in jail immediately.
