DHAKA: BNP on Monday urged the Election Commission (EC) not to shoulder more blame over the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls in the last moment of its tenure.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed came up with the plea at a press briefing in the party central office in city’s Nayapaltan.
He said the polls held under the current EC tenure have been recognized as tainted events both in home and abroad. So, the EC should take initiatives to conduct the last election free and fair.
While replying a query of Obaidul Quader, Rizvi said the president has welcomed the 13-point proposal of BNP and expected that acceptable persons will take the responsibility of EC.
The proposal also indicated the way to form a fair EC with the participation of all parties.
The BNP hoped that their party nominated candidate Sakhawat Hossain will win the race if the poll is conducted impartially.
BNP vice chairman Dr AZM Zahid Hossain and joint secretary general Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, among others, were present in the event.
