GAZIPUR: Ruling Awami League lawmaker Golam Maula Rony was released on bail Monday, five days after the High Court (HC) had issued the order.

Rony was freed from the Dhaka Central Jail, Kashimpur (Part-2) at about 11.12am, said senior jail super Jahangir Kabir to banglanews.

Sources from the Kashimpur Jail said due to the legal formalities, it took time to release him.

Earlier on September 10, HC vacation bench comprising Justice Nizamul Haq Nasim and Justice Kashifa Hossain passed the order Tuesday.

On July 24, Rony was arrested for assaulting two journalists of a private TV Channel.
