Adilur denied bail

DHAKA: Cyber Crime Tribunal (CCT) denied bail of Adilur Rahman, Secretary of Odhikar, a human rights organization, in a case for his alleged involvement in publishing false report and photographs over death toll of a police crackdown of Hefajat-e-Islam rally in the city.

Dhaka CCT judge KM Shamsul Alam on Wedensday passed the order after bail hearing.

The court also fixed October 21 for next proceedings of the case and asked authorities concerned to produce Adilur before it and submit the report regarding the execution of arrest warrant against Nasir Uddin Elan, director of Odhikar on that day.

Earlier, Adilur Rahman was taken to the court from jail at around 11:30am.

Adilur’s lawyer Md. Asaduzzaman moved for the bail petition while public prosecutor of another court stood for the state as no lawyer was appoint to move for the state.

On September 19, on behalf of Adilur, lawyer Asaduzzaman filed the bail petition.

Earlier on September 4, DB Inspector Asraful Alam submitted the charge against Adilur and Nasir Uddin Elan, director of Odhikar, to the CMM court under the sections of 57 (1), 57 (2) of ICT Act-2006 and penal code 505 (C) (D), 505-A.

In their Investigation, Detective Branch (DB) of Police found that Odhikar claim of 61 deaths in the May 5 police crackdown as false and pressed charge sheet against the rights workers.

On August 10, a cyber crime team of Detective Branch of DMP held the former attorney general and human rights activist Adilur Rahman from his Gulshan residence for his alleged involvement in violation of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Act.

Adilur is now in Kashimpur Central Jail.
