BOGRA: A BNP activist was killed and five others were injured in a factional clash between two groups of the party in Tin Matha intersection area under Gabtali upazila of the district on Sunday noon.

The deceased was identified as Shahjahan 40, a local BNP activist.

Witnesses said that the followers of Upazila Chairman Jahidul Islam Helal and Gabtali Municipal Mayor Morshed Milton locked into a fierce clash over bringing out a pro-hartal procession in the area, leaving five people injured critically.

The injured were rushed to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZRMCH) and Upazila Health Complex.

Later, Shahjahan succumbed to his injuries at the SZRMCH.

However, police opened blank fire to bring the situation under control, said a spot account of the incident.

Officer-in-Charge of Gabtali Thana Ali Ahmed Hashmi confirmed the matter to banglanews.
