Football fans are eagerly waiting for a contesting match when powerhouse Bashundhara Kings take on spirited Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra in the title-deciding final match of the Bashundhara Group Independence Cup. 

The football match is scheduled to be held on Monday (Dec 5) at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla at 1 pm.

Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra so far has shown impressive football more than expected in the tournament. They played a good brand of attacking football in the group phase matches, in the quarterfinal and the semifinal matches and finally, the team expected a good result against Bashundhara in the final match.

Stat-studded Bashundhara Kings also maintained their all-win run in the tournament and the league champions must be trying to lift the trophy for the second occasion after 2018.

Earlier, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra reached the final of the tournament defeating defending champions Abahani Limited Dhaka by 3-2 goals in the exciting first semifinal match.

In the group phase engagements they played out to a 1-1 draw with Fortis Football Club in their opening group A match, blanked Bangladesh Navy Football Club by 2-0 goals in their second group match and emerged group champions beating Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited by 3-0 goals in their third match of the group.

Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra eventually confirmed their spot in the semifinal beating Chittagong Abahani Limited by 1-0 goal in the first quarterfinal match.

While Bashundhara Kings stormed into the final of the tournament beating ten men Bangladesh Police Football Club by 3-1 goals in the second semifinal.

In the group phase matches, Bashundhara Kings made a winning start in the tournament beating Fakirerpool Young Men's Club by 14-0 goals in their opening group match, defeated AFC Uttara by 3-0 goals in their second group match and emerged group top with a 2-0 goal victory over Chittagong Abahani Limited in their third match of the tournament.

Title aspirant Bashundhara eventually reached the last four of the tournament when they blanked Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited by 2-0 goals in the second quarterfinal match.
