Player of the Match: Rohit Sharma (87 Runs)
CWC 2023 will remain never to forget bad dream for reigning champions England as they crashed yet again by team India that kept England remaining at the bottom of the points table.
In a low scoring match on Lucknow wicket where bowlers ruled supreme strong Indian batting huffed and puffed reaching 229/9 in the allotted overs. England was crashed to 129 all out losing heavy by 100 Runs. English rule in white ball cricket world cup is over.
A strong believe started dawning among cricket enthusiasts as India put to bat on a wicket of uneven pace and bounce at Lucknow wicket appeared struggling losing wickets in torrents. Only Rohit Sharma stood firm as wickets tumbled. India lost 3 wickets for 31 runs. Rohit (87) and Rahul (39) grinding and grafting added 90 runs in the 4th wicket partnership steadied the rocking boat. It was not a usual flamboyant 87 by Rohit Sharma. But his innings in the context of the match was of immense value as no other batsman of either side could even reach 50 on the difficult wicket. Suryakumar Yadav (49) also made useful contribution as India posted 229/9 in 50 overs. David Willey (3/45), Chris Woakes (2/33) and Adil Rashid (2/35) were the successful English bowlers.
At innings break there were talks about first Indian loss. But ultimately it was proved that on a wicket where English bowlers made Indian batsmen sweat and toil Indian bowlers can torment. Mohammad Sami (4/22), Jasprit Bumrah (3/32) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/24) crashed England to 129 all out in 34.5 overs. England lost by 100 runs. Team India maintained clean sheet at the top of the table winning six in six while England stayed at the rock bottom losing five of their six matches.
CWC 2023 will remain a nightmare for English cricket. There was no one other than Liam Livingstone (27) to mention in English batting. Rohit Sharma was adjudged player of the match. CWC 2023 witnessed two matches of completely opposite dimensions in two days. The trans-Tasman duel at Dharmshala Sky high on Saturday produced the highest ever aggregate of 771 runs. On Sunday Indian score of 229 proved enough for winning by 100 Runs. It remains to be seen whether England can salvage some pride in their remaining three matches. India stays all clear at the top of the table.
