India suffered a setback against Bangladesh in the SAFF U-16 Women’s Championship, losing 1-3 at the ANFA Sports Complex in Lalitpur today (March 5).
Bangladesh’s win puts them atop the group with six points, virtually securing a final spot. India now have three points from two matches and must win their last game against Nepal to advance.
Bangladesh took the lead through Alpi Akter in the ninth minute, but Anushka Kumari leveled for India in the 55th minute.
In the 78th minute, Surbhi Akand Prity netted a superb goal, outpacing defenders from midfield and driving into the box to beat the goalkeeper, sparking joy among the red and green squad once more.
Then, in the 89th minute, Bangladesh further solidified their lead with a third goal, thoroughly dominating India. Ananya's corner caused chaos in the box, with Arpita Biswas eventually striking a powerful shot past the goalkeeper.
With 6 points from two matches, Bangladesh have secured their place in the final as the top team. They will take on Bhutan in their last match on March 8.
