Bangladesh are set to face India in the final of the ongoing SAFF U-16 Women’s Championship 2024 at the ANFA Complex in Lalitpur, Nepal today. The match is scheduled to start at 03:15pm (BST).
This will be the seventh time both teams will play each other during the SAFF women’s final.
On the previous six occasions in different age-level competitions, India won the title thrice while Bangladesh won the championship two times. Both teams were also seen sharing the trophy after the incident took place just a few days ago in Dhaka during the SAFF U-19 women’s final.
Bangladesh face India in another SAFF women’s final todayIn this ongoing tournament, Bangladesh have maintained an all-win record so far as they beat Nepal, India and Bhutan by 2-0, 3-1 and 7-0 goals respectively in the league stage.
India, on the other hand, beat Bhutan and Nepal by 7-0 and 10-0 goals respectively in between their 1-3 goals defeat to Bangladesh.
“The best two teams are playing in the final so anything can happen now. We know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. For my side, they did a lot of hard work and are ready to give their best,” Bangladesh head coach Saiful Bari Titu said during a press conference on Saturday.
Bangladesh captain Arpita Biswas expressed her confidence in giving best on the field against India in the final.
“We got just two months to get ready for this tournament but we did a lot of hard work. As a captain, I will say we will give our best in the final,” said Arpita.
Meanwhile, Indian head coach Biy Thomas Muttath and captain Shveta Rani were also present during the press meet.
“We made some silly mistakes, so we conceded the goal (against Bangladesh in the league stage). We have backed up and are ready to play the final,” said the Indian coach.
