The Bangladesh cricket team went to India following a historic Test series win against Pakistan in Pakistan. Expectations were high after Bangladesh comprehensively won the two-match series, earning a series whitewash. However, the way Bangladesh got whitewashed in the Test series against India and is now heading towards an inescapable whitewash in the T20 series is disappointing.
It’s worth mentioning that Bangladesh is facing a depleted Indian team of fringe players in the T20 series. Bangladesh lost the first match by 7 wickets, with India chasing down the target in just 11.5 overs. In the second match, Bangladesh suffered a drubbing, losing by 86 runs. There are no excuses—this reflects a lack of competence, commitment, and application. India is far ahead of Bangladesh in all departments of the game.
Bangladesh not being able to compete with India is understood. The pathetic state of domestic longer version cricket in Bangladesh can not match with the superior quality of India now the top ranked team in all format. But question arises how a team just winning big and playing wonder brand of quality cricket against not too weak Pakistan can play so poorly against India. All knows the pathetic way Bangladesh lost the second test of the series after two and three quarter of the five day test got washed away by rain. India in its second Innings recorded the firstest 50, 100,150 ,200 and 250 plundering vaunted Bangladesh bowling attack.
Come to T20 series. India rested majority of its mainstream players fielding mostly talented fringe players. Bangladesh at full strength minus Shakib Al Hasan proved no match. In the first match Bangladesh batted poorly setting an Insignificant target for India which they chased in 11.5 overs recording a Roller Coaster Ride. Bangladesh top order, middle order and late order had no clue against quality Indian bowling. On the other hand top order Indian batsmen mercilessly pun shed listless Bangladesh bowling. In the second match India batting first registered 221/9 and then restricted Bangladesh to 135/9. With two back-to-back huge defeat Bangladesh is poised for comprehensive series whitewash
No one expected Bangladesh to beat India in the Test series, but no one anticipated such a dismal performance, where the team failed to show any fighting spirit. What plans did the Bangladesh coaching staff have for the series? As for the T20 series, it has been one-way traffic all the way. Bangladesh organizes the BPL every year, and the previous BCB administration proudly boasted that it was the second-best franchise league after the IPL. So why does Bangladesh look so ordinary against a second-string Indian team? Is it a lack of competence or professionalism? Hopefully, this clueless performance won’t leave lasting damage on Bangladesh cricket.
