Team India on Wednesday put up a strong display by beating Sri Lanka by 82 runs in the Group A match at the Dubai International Stadium, UAE. This is India's biggest ever win in terms of runs in the Women's T20 World Cup.

The Indian batter finally found some form after a disappointing performance against New Zealand and barely getting over the line against Pakistan. Openers Smirti Mandhana and Shafali Verma put on 98 runs in 12.4 overs, before the former was run out for 50 off 38 balls. Verma fell on the very next ball after scoring 43 off 40 balls. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur registered an unbeaten 27-ball 52 to help her team post a big score of 172/3 in 20 overs.

In response, Sri Lanka got off to the worst possible started and lost three early wickets were reduced to 6/3 in three overs. The innings went nowhere post the terrible powerplay and they were restricted to in overs. Only three batters managed to cross the double digits and none of them had a strike rate of over 100. For India, pacer Arundhati Reddy, who had starred against Pakistan, once again produced figures of 3/19, while leg-spinner Asha Sobhana too registered identical figures. Renuka Singh Thakur picked up a couple of wickets.

With the massive win, India moved to the second place on the points table, overtaking New Zealand, who themselves faced a heavy defeat against Australia on Tuesday. India will next face Australia in their last and must win league game on October 13. India's qualification will depend on the outcome against the defending champions and on how New Zealand and Pakistan do in their remaining matches.
