Fortune Barishal clinched a thrilling six-wicket win over Durbar Rajshahi in the opening match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Mirpur on Monday. 

Barishal successfully chased down the challenging target of 198 runs with 11 balls remaining, driven by the powerful batting performances of Mahmudullah Riyad and Fahim Ashraf.

Batting first after losing the toss, Rajshahi posted a challenging 197 for 3, led by Yasir Ali Rabbi’s unbeaten 94 off 47 balls, featuring 7 fours and 8 sixes. He was supported by Anamul Haque Bijoy, who scored 65 off 51 balls. Their 140-run partnership laid a strong foundation for Rajshahi.

In reply, Barishal faced early setbacks, losing Najmul Hossain Shanto, Tamim Iqbal, and Kyle Mayers within the powerplay. A brief resistance came from Towhid Hridoy, who scored 32 off 23 balls, but Barishal struggled at 113 for 6 after 14 overs.

The tide turned dramatically when Fahim Ashraf smashed three consecutive sixes in Hasan Murad’s 15th over. Mahmudullah Riyad joined the assault, reaching his half-century in just 23 balls. The pair added 88 runs off 35 balls, with Mahmudullah remaining unbeaten on 56 off 26 balls and Fahim smashing 54 not out off 21 balls. Their fiery innings propelled Barishal to a memorable victory.
