Spain triumphed over the Netherlands in a dramatic penalty shootout to secure a spot in the Nations League semifinals after a thrilling 3-3 draw.
The shootout saw both Noa Lang of the Netherlands and Spain's Lamine Yamal miss, but Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon saved Donyell Malen's attempt, allowing Pedri the chance to seal the victory.
The Barcelona midfielder calmly converted his penalty into the corner, sparking wild celebrations from the home crowd at Mestalla Stadium in Valencia.
Spain had taken the lead twice during regular time with goals from Mikel Oyarzabal, but the Netherlands responded. Memphis Depay's penalty early in the second half and Ian Maatsen's debut goal forced extra time.
In the added 30 minutes, Yamal put Spain back in front with a stunning shot, but Xavi Simons equalized with a penalty, sending the match to a shootout.
This victory extended Spain's unbeaten streak in all competitions to 18 matches, and they remain undefeated in the Nations League since September 2022.
Spain's journey began with Oyarzabal converting a penalty after Jan Paul van Hecke fouled him. Depay responded with a penalty of his own, marking his 100th appearance for the Netherlands. Oyarzabal's second goal from a fast counter-attack briefly gave Spain the lead, only for Maatsen’s powerful strike to level the tie.
In extra time, after Yamal's brilliant goal, Simons' penalty restored the Dutch hopes, but the shootout ultimately saw Spain triumph, setting up a semifinal clash with France.
