Tamim Iqbal, the former Bangladesh cricket captain, has regained consciousness following a successful procedure in which a ring was inserted into his heart.

The country's top opener has spoken with family members.

Besides, officials from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), who visited him, said that he was in stable condition.

Hospital sources said that Tamim will remain under observation for the next 48 hours to monitor his recovery.

Earlier, Tamim Iqbal fell ill during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club at BKSP and has been admitted to a hospital in Savar.

Citing hospital sources, BCB's head of the medical department Debashish Chowdhury said, Tamim suffered a heart attack and has been diagnosed with a heart blockage.
