Kraigg Brathwaite has stepped down as the captain of the West Indies Test team after three years in the role.

The 32-year-old will relinquish his position ahead of Australia’s three-match Test series in the Caribbean in June and July, with his successor yet to be announced.

Brathwaite took charge in March 2021, guiding the team to a home series victory over England in 2022 and securing a historic Test win in Australia in 2024—their first in 27 years.

Under his leadership, the West Indies finished eighth in the most recent World Test Championship cycle. With a new cycle beginning, Brathwaite has decided to step aside.

Meanwhile, the West Indies T20 team will also see a change in leadership, with Shai Hope replacing Rovman Powell as captain.

Hope, 31, who already captains the West Indies in One-Day Internationals, will lead the T20 side for the first time in a six-match series against England and Ireland in June.

Powell, who took over the T20 captaincy in 2023, had notable success, securing home series victories against India, England, and South Africa.
