The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed James Pamment as the new Fielding Coach for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.

He will join the team before the upcoming Test series against Zimbabwe later this month.

Pamment replaces Nick Pothas, who had taken over the fielding duties after the previous coach, Shaun Mcdermott. Pothas was also working as an assistant coach.

Born in England and currently living in New Zealand, the 56-year-old has plenty of experience. He used to play first-class cricket for Auckland and has signed a contract with Bangladesh that runs until the ICC ODI World Cup in 2027.

Pamment has a strong coaching background. He was recently part of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as an Assistant Coach, focusing on fielding and running between the wickets. He joined the team in 2018 and played an important role in improving their performance.

Earlier in his career, he worked as Head Coach at Northern District Cricket Association for five years. He also worked with New Zealand Cricket as a High Performance Coach. In that role, he helped teams like New Zealand, New Zealand A, and the Under-19 side as a Fielding Coach and Technical Advisor.

Pamment also served as New Zealand’s Assistant Coach during their home series against Pakistan in 2011, and briefly coached the United States national team.

Speaking about his new job, Pamment said, “I’m really excited to work with the talented Bangladesh team. I’m looking forward to joining the players and staff before the Zimbabwe series.”
