Bangladesh all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been named Sportsperson of the Year 2024 at the Kool-BSPA Sports Award ceremony held on Friday evening at Pan Pacific Sonargaon in Dhaka.

The event celebrated the country’s top sports performers and honoured winners in 15 different categories.

The awards were organized by the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA), the oldest organization for sports journalists in the country. Many well-known athletes, coaches, and sports personalities attended the ceremony.

Miraz also won the Cricketer of the Year award. He was chosen ahead of national footballer Ritu Porna Chakma and archer Sagor Islam, who made history by directly qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

In an emotional speech, Miraz thanked the organizers and said the event motivates athletes to do better.
