Heroes in sideline!

DHAKA: Seven years back, Bangladesh celebrated the first victory in the short-version of the cricket in 2007. Then two World Twenty20 tournaments were held but the Tigers got no victory.

Bangladesh trumped no victory in a total of 11 matches in those tournaments except one.  In 2009, Tigers left the World tournament after shamefully defeating by Ireland.

In the first success, Mohhammad Ashraful and Aftab Ahmed brought the win by a magnificent performance against West Indies. Chasing a target of 165, Ashraful made a dashing score, 61 runs off 27 balls and Ahmed scored 62 runs off 49 balls.

The duo is not in the team now. Ashraful last played against Sri Lanka scoring 43 off 27 balls, and later was banned from cricket for match fixing in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He has 450 runs playing 23 matches of short-version cricket.

Due to bad performance, Aftab Ahemd, a middle order batsman, had gotten no chance to put on the jersey of the national team since 2010.

Millions of fans, however, hope the tigers would be able to defeat the favourite teams in the ICC World Twenty20 2014 began from Sunday.

And, Bangladesh is really doing that, defeating Afghanistan by 9 wickets on Sunday.
