The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the new captain of the One-Day International (ODI) team, replacing Najmul Hossain Shanto in the 50-over format.
The announcement was made by the BCB through a press release on Thursday (June 12).
The 27-year-old all-rounder will begin his journey as captain in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.
“It is a great honour for me to receive this responsibility from the board,” Miraz said.
“Leading the national team is a dream for any cricketer, and I am thankful to the board for placing their trust in me,” he added.
Miraz said, “I believe strongly in this team. We have the skill and confidence to play positive cricket. I want the team to perform with freedom, stay confident, and always give their best for the country.”
He is currently Bangladesh’s highest-ranked all-rounder in the ICC ODI rankings and holds the third spot globally. His recent form has made him one of the team’s top performers, adding strength to the decision to hand him the captaincy.
